About Lucía

Lucía is an Assistant Professor at the School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies (SALIS) at Dublin City University (DCU). Originally from Spain, she holds a European PhD on translation and language education from the University of Valladolid, where she also completed her BA in Translation and Interpreting, and an MPhil in Translation and Intercultural Communication.

Her academic background spans linguistics, translation studies, and communication. She has contributed to a wide range of projects involving translation in language education, didactic audiovisual translation, and advancements in audio description (AD). Her current research focuses on audiovisual translation, accessibility, inclusion, and user-centered AD practices.

Through the ADESI Project, Lucía seeks to bridge the gap between theory and practice, exploring how audio description as an accessibility service is perceived, developed, and used by different communities across Ireland. She explores how evidence-based data and discussion on such may help address challenges such as AD services, professionalisation pathways, and the integration of AD in the entertainment industry, particularly in Ireland within the broader European context. Part of this research was funded by the Irish Research Council (2023-2025).

She works in collaboration with a diverse network of academics and professionals across Ireland and Europe, and is deeply committed to making audio description more inclusive and responsive to audience needs.
